We’ve designed this golf club length calculator to assist golfers in determining the optimal length for clubs or drive shaft, taking into account various factors such as height and wrist-to-floor measurement.
A golfer standing 5’10” (178 cm) tall with a wrist-to-floor measurement of 34 inches (86 cm), use the golf club shaft length calculator to find that their ideal driver length is 44.5 inches (113 cm).

Golf Club Length Calculator Formula
Ideal Club Length = Standard Club Length + Adjustment Factor
- Player’s height
- Wrist-to-floor measurement
- Standard club length
- Adjustment factor
Where the Adjustment Factor is calculated based on the player’s height and wrist-to-floor measurement.
Example:
- Standard driver length: 45 inches
- Player’s height: 6’0″ (183 cm)
- Wrist-to-floor: 35 inches (89 cm)
- Calculated adjustment: +0.5 inches
- Ideal driver length: 45 + 0.5 = 45.5 inches (115.6 cm)
How to Measure Golf Club Length for Height
- Stand upright with your arms relaxed at your sides.
- Measure the distance from your wrist (where it meets the hand) to the floor.
- Record your height in inches or centimeters.
- Use these measurements in conjunction with a Golf Club Length Calculator.
A golfer measures their wrist-to-floor distance as 33 inches (84 cm) and their height as 5’8″ (173 cm). These measurements would be input into the calculator to determine ideal club lengths.
What is the standard length of a driver shaft without the head?
The standard length of a driver shaft without the head typically ranges from 44 to 46 inches (112 to 117 cm). This measurement is taken from the top of the grip to the bottom of the shaft where it would connect to the clubhead.
A manufacturer produces a standard driver shaft measuring 45.5 inches (115.6 cm) without the head. Once assembled with the clubhead, the total length might increase to around 46 inches (117 cm).
How do you determine the correct length of a golf club?
- Measure your height and wrist-to-floor distance.
- Consider your swing characteristics and playing style.
- Test clubs of different lengths to find what feels comfortable.
- Adjust based on your skill level and any physical limitations.
A beginner golfer, 5’6″ (168 cm) tall with a 31-inch (79 cm) wrist-to-floor measurement, might start with standard length clubs. After gaining experience, they may find that slightly shorter clubs improve their consistency and control.
What is the standard length of a 7 iron club?
The standard length of a 7 iron is typically 37 inches (94 cm) for men and 36.5 inches (93 cm) for women.
A male golfer using a standard set of irons would likely find their 7 iron to be 37 inches long. If they were fitted for custom clubs, this length might be adjusted by ±0.5 inches (1.27 cm) based on their measurements and preferences.
