Our Ski Size Calculator is a powerful tool that helps skiers determine the optimal length of skis based on various factors such as height, weight, skill level, and skiing style.

A beginner skier who is 5’8″ (173 cm) tall and weighs 150 lbs (68 kg) might use a Ski Size Calculator. The calculator would consider these factors along with the skier’s experience level to recommend a ski length range, perhaps suggesting skis between 160-170 cm long.

Ski Size Calculation Formula

Base Ski Length = (Height in cm × Skill Factor) + Weight Adjustment

Where:

  • Skill Factor ranges from 0.875 (beginner) to 1.0 (advanced)
  • Weight Adjustment adds or subtracts centimeters based on whether the skier is heavier or lighter than average for their height

For a beginner skier who is 170 cm tall: Base Ski Length = (170 × 0.875) + 0 = 148.75 cm

For an advanced skier who is 180 cm tall and heavier than average: Base Ski Length = (180 × 1.0) + 5 = 185 cm

How do you calculate your ski size?

To calculate:

  1. Measure your height in centimeters.
  2. Determine your skill level (beginner, intermediate, advanced).
  3. Consider your weight relative to your height.
  4. Adjust based on your preferred skiing style.
  5. Use a ski size chart or calculator to find the recommended range.
  6. Fine-tune within that range based on personal preference.

How long should my skis be by height and weight?

Height-based recommendation:

  • For beginners: Choose skis that reach between your chin and nose.
  • For intermediates: Select skis that reach between your nose and eyebrows.
  • For advanced skiers: Opt for skis that reach between your eyebrows and the top of your head.

Weight considerations:

  • If you’re heavier than average for your height, add 5-10 cm to the recommended length.
  • If you’re lighter than average, subtract 5-10 cm from the recommended length.

Remember, these are starting points. Your skiing style and the type of terrain you prefer will also influence the ideal ski length. For example, powder skis are often longer than all-mountain skis for the same skier.

What length skis for 5-11 man?

For a 5’11” intermediate skier of average weight looking for all-mountain skis, a good starting point would be around 180 cm. They could then adjust up or down based on personal preference and specific needs.

Skill Level:

  • Beginner: 170-180 cm
  • Intermediate: 175-185 cm
  • Advanced: 180-190 cm

Weight:

  • If the man weighs less than 160 lbs (72 kg), consider the lower end of the range.
  • If he weighs more than 200 lbs (90 kg), consider the higher end of the range.

Skiing Style:

  • All-mountain skiing: Stick to the ranges above.
  • Powder skiing: Add 5-10 cm to the recommended length.
  • Park or freestyle skiing: Subtract 5-10 cm from the recommended length.

Personal Preference:

  • Some skiers prefer the maneuverability of slightly shorter skis.
  • Others enjoy the stability of longer skis at high speeds.
